The Harms Caused by Automobile Exhaust

In the busy streets, a lot of light blue smoke is emitted from the tails of the motor vehicles, which is commonly referred to as automobile exhaust. Automobile exhaust not only smells strange, but will also cause dizziness and nausea, affecting human health. Along with the dramatic increase in the number of cars, traffic jam has become a very common problem. The "car disaster" has been formed, and the automobile exhaust resulted from it is extremely harmful.

There are various kinds of harmful chemical components contained in the emitted car gas, mainly as follows:

First, suspended solid particles
The composition of solid suspended particles is very complex. It has strong adsorptive capacity, which can absorb all kinds of metal dust and strong carcinogens such as benzopyrene and pathogenic microorganisms. When the suspended solid particles enter human lung with breath, they will be retained in different parts of the respiratory tract, causing respiratory disease. In addition, suspended particles can also directly contact with skin and eyes, block the hair follicles and sweat glands in the skin, which will cause dermatitis and conjunctivitis, and even lead to corneal damage.

Second, carbon monoxide
When carbon monoxide enter into the blood circulation through the respiratory tract, it will combine with hemoglobin and form carbonyl hemoglobin. Thus, it will weaken the function of the blood to transport blood to various tissues, damage the central nervous system, cause dysfunction of human feeling, reaction, understanding, memory, and so on. Much serious, it will damage the circulatory system, and threaten human life.

Third, nitrogen oxides
Nitrogen oxides mainly refer to nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide, which are both harmful gases on human health, especially on the respiratory system. If the concentration of nitrogen dioxide in the air is too high, it will cause the dysfunction of human respiratory system.

Fourth, hydrocarbons
At present, people are not clear about the direct harms of hydrocarbons on human health. However, when nitrogen oxides react with hydrocarbons under the action of ultraviolet, they will produce a kind of light blue smoke, which include ozone, aldehydes, nitric acid and many other complex compounds. The most prominent harm of this photochemical smog on human body is the stimulation on the eyes and the mucosa membrane of upper respiratory tract, which may lead to eye irritation and laryngitis.

In addition, there are other harmful chemical components in automobile emission, such as lead, dioxin, sulfur dioxide, and so on, which greatly threaten human life.
